Secerna Shares IP Law Insights with Durham University Students
On Friday, 22nd November, Secerna's trainee patent attorney, Jay Ruaux, visited Durham University's Engineering Department to discuss the exciting world of intellectual property (IP) law. The presentation aimed to inspire undergraduate engineering students to explore this dynamic field and understand how their skills can translate into a rewarding legal career.
During the talk, Jay delved into the fundamentals of IP, explaining how patents work and the day-to-day responsibilities of a patent attorney. He also shed light on the rigorous examination process to become a qualified UK and European patent attorney.
To provide a deeper understanding of the field, Jay encouraged students to attend Secerna's taster day and listen to the company's guest appearance on the podcast ‘Why Small Business Matters: Why IP Matters & How To Safeguard Your Assets.
Jay said: "It was incredibly rewarding to share my experiences with the next generation of engineers. The fact that students were curious about a career path like patent law, which isn't always widely discussed, is a testament to their open minds and eagerness to explore diverse opportunities. It was a great opportunity to highlight the many exciting career paths available to engineering graduates beyond traditional roles in industry."
