Intellectual property law firm Secerna has marked a year of continued growth with recognition in a global legal directory that places the firm in the top 20% of IP law firms in the UK.
Published annually, the IAM Patent 1000 is a directory of the world’s leading patent professionals, widely regarded as the go-to resource for people looking for world-class, private practice patent expertise and leading expert witnesses.
The 2022 IAM rankings follow an exhaustive research project to identify outstanding firms and individuals across multiple jurisdictions. The researchers consider factors including depth of knowledge, market presence, and the level of work on which firms are typically instructed, alongside positive peer and client feedback.
The Secerna team supports a worldwide client base of multi-national corporations, FTSE and NYSE listed companies, universities, spin-out companies, small businesses, and innovators. The last 12 months have seen the firm expand its team, open a new office in Dublin, and expand its client base across Europe, the Far East and USA – all of which were noted by the IAM.
The guide says, “Secerna constantly punches above its weight, drafting airtight patents and providing fierce representations before the EPO. In addition, it is well known for its top-quality litigation support and due diligence work. In 2021 it opened its Dublin office, making it easier for the outfit to roll out this stellar package to the European market.”
Secerna Partners, Jason Boakes and Charlotte Watkins were highlighted for special recognition from IAM. On Jason, they say, “Jason is extremely detailed in his approach and provides excellent advice and guidance on patenting matters, explaining IP terms and positions in a very clear and precise way. He is keen to understand the business, the clients, and works hard to understand how he can add value to in-house counsel.”
On the work that Charlotte carried out, the commentators say, “Charlotte is very knowledgeable in this field and works with a high level of diligence. She has a fantastic ability to understand complex science, but also understands business needs in detail and provides useful guidance that is aligned with commercial goals.”
Commenting on the listing, Jason says, “Our team is regularly called upon by billion-dollar corporations to take the lead in business-critical IP aspects of major transactions, original patent drafting work, product development and adaptation, as well as European Patent Office oppositions and appeals. Recognition of this work is a well-deserved boost for the team and all they do to support our growing list of clients worldwide.”
