Last week, Secerna LLP attended the All-Energy® 2017 conference in Glasgow. The event featured an eclectic mix of companies and organisations involved in the clean energy sector - from giants in Offshore Wind through to newcomers providing localised tidal power solutions. Many areas were represented including Wave, Onshore and Offshore Wind, Tidal and Hydroelectric Power, as well as Energy Storage, Solar, Power Distribution and Bioenergy.
It is an exciting time to be involved in the clean energy sector. Established players are facing increased challenges in pushing the limits of technology to exploit sites further afield and in harsher environments, while new entrants are exploring completely new technologies that could revolutionise the way in which renewable power sources are harnessed in the first place. Needless to say, these challenges lead to innovative solutions, and innovative solutions generate intellectual property.
One of our UK and European Patent Attorneys, Sam Bloor, delivered a talk at the conference on the topic of IP risk, including the risk of infringing other people’s IP and the risk associated with protecting your own IP, and how to manage this risk cost effectively. He was also on hand to provide tips on how to build risk management into your product lifecycle so that it can be used effectively to inform key decision making.
If you would like to know more, or have any specific questions about managing IP within your business, please contact Sam or one of our other attorneys.
